Power Kite flying lessons
Power kiting is easy enough for all to learn and can be enjoyed by adults, children or the whole family. There is an instant rush from flying kites around the skies, or scudding (sliding on your feet) along by the traction of the wind.
In a half day power kite lesson, we will give all the coaching needed to fly the power kite, and will try to get you flying a selection of kites depending on wind conditions, as they all have different abilities / behaviours.
You don’t need much equipment for power kite flying, for once you have purchased a power kite, all you need is some open space, and a nice consistant wind – and mother nature provides these in plentiful supply. You don’t need deep pockets to take up power kite flying as a new hobby – and it gets you outside and ACTIVE, you really can’t beat it!
Once you have grasped the basic kite skills, then the opportunities open up. The kite skills you learn will enable you to easily try kite boarding and kite buggying, so it’s easy to see how you get hooked! All lesson take part with this years modle kites, PKD Buster Soulfly and Ozone Flow

A power kite is exactly as it sounds - a kite that, using the wind, creates power. There are many different sizes / types of kite to cope with all wind conditions and user knowledge.Shaped like a aeroplane wing, the body of the kite can be used to create 'lift' which you (as the flyer) experience as pull on the control handles. Depending on the size of the kite (or the wind conditions) this lift can be strong enough to lift you off the ground!
However, DON'T PANIC! During our kite flying lessons, we teach you how to know which kites suit which situations, and we always train people using a kite that gives enough of a pull to keep you smiling, but not too much that you lose contact with the ground!
We will teach you how to manouvre the power kite, where the best location is to fly, and how best to enjoy your flying - really, that's what it's all about, having fun! Power kiting is a great sport that gives a real thrill. Anyone can enjoy it, as the kites are so easy to fly and can cope with virtually any wind conditions.If you like what you see, please give it a try. SB Kites is the only kite school in the Dorset coastal area which offers land based power kite lessons, kite buggy lessons and kiteboarding lessons.
Kev and Sue are ready to teach you, your friends and family all aspects of power kiting, bugging and kite boarding enabling you to continue the kiting safely wherever you are. We are experienced kiters with the correct insurance, as well as sports first-aid certificates, and one of our instructors is passed by the criminal records bureau.Power kiting is a physical sport, so before the lesson, we kit you out with the appropriate safety equipment. We use a range of kites, boards and buggies for our clients and are happy to advise on the kites, boards and buggies that are right for you.
The majority of kite lessons will take place in Poole and Bournemouth, and we choose the best flying days to help you learn to fly! At SBK we can teach you the control of a power kite in one easy lesson - no experience is necessary. There are no minimum fitness requirements, and we tailor each of our courses to suit all abilities.
